For those that have lived a lonely life

Loneliness can be so heavy, and for some, it may seem like they have carried this heavy weight for quite a while.

Perhaps you see others meeting together through their pictures on social media, or maybe you observe friend groups from afar at church or at a restaurant. You think, “Why don’t I have friends like that?”

Kirk Cameron recently shared an article from author and TheCourage contributor, Samantha Krieger, discussing her recent season of loneliness. There were a few comments on Facebook sharing that loneliness has followed them for more than just a season. If this is you, we encourage you to listen to our recent exclusive audio interview with Samantha inside Kirk Cameron’s The Campfire.

Samantha says that while her season of loneliness has been a personal struggle, she recognizes that there are those who have felt lonely for a while.

She gives practical tips to those that feel like they are living a lonely life:

“Try to plug into whatever church body is near you or other community events that are near you. This will get you out of the house, and you’ll see that there are others out there that have needs, too.”

Samantha went on to say that when you get out of yourself, you often find that there are others that are dealing with the same problems in different ways. Instead of waiting for someone to come find you, go out and find those that are hurting with you.

I know you might be thinking, “Easier said than done.” In fact, you’re right. It isn’t going to be easy, and you might be rejected a few times. But as believers, we are called to live a life serving God and others. If you want to put an end to not having any friends, the effort you put forth here will be worth it.

She encouraged the listeners to “pray through how you can be the initiator, to start something from scratch, and to figure out ways to reach out to others.” She also says to ask yourself, “How can I be an encouragement to someone else?”

I absolutely love Samantha’s honest heart in this interview and the practical advice she gives to fighting against loneliness. To hear more of her story, her tips, and a deeper discussion on postpartum depression, you can hear the full interview at The Campfire.
